Alison Levy has over 19 years of experience working to improve the employment of people with disabilities in the non-profit, post secondary and Federal government sectors.
Employed at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Headquarters for over nine years in the Department’s Disability Resource Center, Ms. Levy has worked as part of a core team in providing reasonable accommodations, marketing and outreach, the development of policies, procedures and structure for the Center, and more recently in the area of recruitment of persons with severe disabilities to the Department of Transportation at the national level.
Ms. Levy is the Manager of DOT’s Selective Placement Program. In this role, she serves as the Department’s point of contact in educating internal and external stakeholders on disability-related issues and in developing policy on the recruitment, hiring, advancement and retention of persons with disabilities. Ms. Levy regularly presents briefings and seminars to audiences ranging from small work groups to large forums. In addition, she has presented at numerous conferences at the local, regional, and national levels.
Previously, Ms. Levy was a Technical Assistance Specialist at the ADA Information Center for the Mid-Atlantic Region where she predominantly provided Title I guidance to callers via their toll-free line and helped with training seminars on the employment provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act. She formerly worked at Gallaudet University’s College for Continuing Education as a Program Development Specialist, where she developed educational programs, training seminars, and conferences on issues related to Deaf and hard of hearing people. Ms. Levy formerly worked as the Advocacy Coordinator for Self Help for Hard of Hearing People, Inc. during the time in which the ADA regulations were being developed.
Originally from North Olmsted, Ohio, Ms. Levy’s family moved to Maryland where she has resided since age eight. She earned her B.A. in Public Communication from The American University, and her Masters in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University.
